About a week ago, I woke up and said to myself, I have just GOT to start writing my own blog.

The decision really came together after a 4 hour car ride together with my husband, D., where we did our usual holiday postmortem; talking and ranting and sharing our points of view while our children slept, snug in their safety car seats. I realized that I needed a way to get my thoughts out there. In four hours, we’d really only scratched the surface of all the things I wanted to say.

Thus, my new blog. This Examined Life. The name is a kind of homage to This American Life, one of my favorite radio shows, from Chicago public radio. This American Life offers a wide array of interesting topics, with glimpses into a wide variety of lives. My blog, by contrast, will offer topics that range from quirky observations about parenting, anecdotes on my own children, my personal views on breastfeeding, child development, privacy and recovering from clinical depression, and more.

I’ll be glad to hear comments from readers, be they positive or negative, though I’ll reserve the right to block out spam, and other forms of toxic communication based on my own personal discretion. I’m interested in hearing views of others; otherwise why bother publishing my thoughts in this public forum? So please feel welcome to share your thoughts.

Thanks for reading!
