In case you were alarmed…

Meanwhile, Carla’s sick with the flu. Boy did I feel dumb when her doctor casually asked if we’d gotten “flu protection this year.” Uh, no. Not that it’s automatically recommended or required for a seven year old, but I am kind of kicking myself (it’s a hobby of mine!) She has already been through the worst of it, though.
I even don’t call the doctor quickly when my kids are sick. I follow pretty strict criteria; their illness has to reach certain levels of either high temperature or one which lasts, or the illness itself has to last a certain length of time and not respond to the first treatments that I offer. It’s not that I’m indifferent, it’s just that I don’t like to drag a sick kid out to the doctor when I think that bedrest, fluids and tylenol will likely do the trick.
I decided last night, however, that three days of fever were plenty and I wanted to specifically rule out strep throat and ear infections and so, off we went today. If there was a way I could be trained to examine ears, and a home strep culture, I would probably be able to decrease our pediatrician visits dramatically.
Now… as for about ME and my LITTLE PROBLEM, I will let you be the decider about whether you want to…
So I complained about getting a period again only two weeks after my big bossy Aunt Flo came and ruined my new Levi’s in the crotch. The new and rather early ‘period’ turned out to be a light case of spotting that went away within hours. I don’t find that too alarming.
Ectopic pregnancy or regular pregnancy, or early miscarriage are concerns that flashed through my mind as well, but I quickly discounted them because I don’t think I’ve had any qualifying sex. (Hey, you clicked to read this TMI stuff, right?!) I could be wrong about that; I’m not the one around here who keeps track of when it happens, but that is another post for another website in another life.
So anyway, only one day of light flow; and since it went away so quickly and I had no other symptoms, I decided to hold off on contacting the doctor. But I am also happy to have mentioned it to the blog because if for no other reason, at least now I have some records that I won’t lose, and can go back to if I start bleeding again weirdly.
I think doctors do have to C.Y.A. and I think they have some kind of “action-always-required” motto when you come to see them. They don’t just want to say, yup, you’re probably fine, no biggie, go home, thanks for the co-pay. They need to know that they have done everything in their power to uncover any potential problem. Which seems reasonable but is also a pain in the butt. I am a low intervention kind of gal. Treat me only when I really need it, thank you very much.
So, there you have it. I am ok. For now.
